Is there any way to suppress display of Object Number in both Module Explorer and the main column?
Although most of the time showing the Object Number (known outside DOORS as outline numbering) is helpful, in some modules that are just flat lists, showing the Object Number has no benefit and could even be confusing to the reader.
Object Number is a string value that corresponds to the outline level (e.g., 5.2.4)
If we have a DOORS module that is a list of terms (like acronyms) each object may be at the same level. If at level one, we'll just have a bunch of numbers next to each entry.
Having the list items (like acronyms) in the "Object Heading" attribute is useful because it gives the user the opportunity to use the Module Explorer to browse.
See attachment.
Anyone know a means of keeping concatenation of the Object Number string out of (1) the Module Explorer entries and (2) the display of "Object Heading" in the main column?

I don't know how to do so for the module explorer, but you can suppress object numbers in the main column by putting the info in the Object Text instead of the Object Heading. Putting it in Object Heading is announcing your intention that this be a section head, and therefore will display the paragraph number as well.

Thanks. I know that no Object Number will appear if I put entries in Object Text only. The whole point of putting the term in Object Heading is I want it to appear in the Module Explorer.
Here is another angle. Is there any way to get an entry in the Module Explorer pane other than populating a Object Header field?
I want to use the Module Explorer to "drill down" to desired content.
In Word (for example) by default headings appear in the Table of Contents. If you out of your way, you can put other things in the Table of Contents too like Figures for example.
So restating my original question with a few more options:
Can we get non-"Object Heading" entries into the module explorer by some means or can the Object Number string be suppressed?
If we have a definition:
NCR = National Cash Register
can we get NCR into the Module Explorer without the Object Number? I'd like to see NCR in the Module Explorer and "drill down" to go to the object with the definition (typical hyperlink table of contents behavior).
Want this to appear:
IBM
NCR
Not this:
6007 IBM
6836 NCR

Just to make clear. Object Text only entries will appear in the module explorer (without a number). Why is this not an option?
I guess if you are very bad, you might be able to change the behaviour of the built in module explorer from DXL. Note that this part of DOORS is NOT written in DXL. However I would suggest you to create floating dialog with your own treeview displaying whatever information you like. The user can use it instead of the module explorer. That will work without an ugly hack.

My conclusion is this is one of those DOORS behaviors that not configurable like Word is. It is best just to understand the behavior and deal with it.
Here is a summary of similarities and differences between Word and DOORS pertaining to this topic.
Heading Display
Word – Headings may be displayed with Outline Numbering enabled or disabled. Default is disabled.
DOORS – Headings are always displayed with Outline Numbering enabled. (In DOORS terms, headings always display with an Object Number prefix.)
DOORS Explorer Pane/Word Document Map
Word – The Document Map only shows headings. The displayable level is configurable (e.g., 1-9, or all). In Word, rather than Object Text there is Body Text (non-heading text). Body Text never appears in the Document Map.
DOORS – The Explorer pane shows Object Headings and Object Text. The displayable level is configurable (just like Word). For headings, the Object Number appears as a prefix. For Object Text, there is no Object number prefix.
